In order to enjoy "Connections", please follow these steps:
STEP ONE:
Select the "Connections" folder on the CD-ROM desktop and drag it to your hard drive. It will require about 2 MB of disk space. You can rename this folder or put it inside another folder if you want. When you are ready to play the game, open this folder on your hard drive and double-click the "Connections" icon. Unless you choose otherwise, Connections automatically puts your saved games in this folder. Note: When throwing away saved games, please don't throw away the Connections icon and the two program files inside the "Connections" folder.
If you have current versions of QuickTime and Sound Manager, you are ready to play "Connections" right now. For best appearance, the program will automatically set your monitor to thousands of colors if your chosen screen resolution supports it (see below under MONITORS). If you don't have current versions of QuickTime and Sound Manager, please see the following steps.
STEP TWO:
If you are not sure what version of QuickTime you have, open the Extensions folder inside your System Folder, select the QuickTime icon and choose "Get Info" under the File menu. If your version is equal to or older than QuickTime 2.1, drag it into the trash and close your System Folder. Now select the QuickTime icon on the "Connections" CD-ROM desktop and drag it on top of your closed System Folder. Click "okay" when prompted and your Macintosh will automatically put it where it belongs. (Please note that you have to remove any previous version of QuickTime from the Extensions folder before you can replace it.)
If you have a Power Mac, you'll need the QuickTime PowerPlug. Just drag it from the CD-ROM to your System Folder and you'll get a prompt indicating whether your version is "an older item", "a newer item" or simply "an item" (which means it's the same). If it's older or the same, click "okay" to replace it.
STEP THREE:
Drag the Sound Mananger icon from the "Connections" CD-ROM desktop to your closed System Folder. You'll get a prompt indicating whether your version is "an older item", "a newer item" or simply "an item" (which means it's the same). If it's older or the same, click "okay" to replace it.
STEP FOUR:
Restart your computer. Then just double-click the "Connections" icon in the "Connections" folder on your hard drive to play the game.
QUICK PERFORMANCE TIP
Allocate more RAM to "Connections:" Select the "Connections" icon in the "Connections" folder on your hard drive. Now choose "Get Info" from the file menu. Set the preferred size to 500K less than the ╥Largest Unused Block╙ of memory (or free RAM) indicated in the ╥About this Macintosh...╙ command under the Apple Menu.
MONITORS
For best appearance, "Connections" will automatically set your monitor to thousands of colors. To enable this, you might need to set your monitor to 640 x 480 resolution. To do so (or to confirm that your current setting permits thousands of colors) select Control Panels under the Apple menu, then select Monitors. If "thousands of colors" is not listed, click Options and select 640 x 480 resolution.
